Escenic for Elections

Merging on-air and online content, using Escenic Content Studio for repurposing broadcast content for web use.

Merging on-air and online

Content that has been created for TV broadcast is not necessarily suited for use in a web context. The requirements of the TV medium, the author’s intent, as well as the particular attributes of a message created for a particular destination (TV) need to be taken into account when attempting to re-purpose this content for the web. The need for an editorial “content bridge” becomes apparent. With this scenario in mind, journalists need a toolset for video editing, applying new graphics, and preparing content for online use.

Cross-media synergy

The case for combining a broadcast with accompanying online material is particularly strong for elections. In order to appeal to most viewers, only a generalized perspective can be presented on-air. Online users can be offered the same data and graphics with the option to drill down to regional or local perspectives. With Escenic Content Studio the graphics featured in the studio can be made available online. By referring to the extended online possibilities, TV will drive online traffic. Vice versa, web visitors can be prompted and reminded of when the next relevant broadcast is live. Commentary and analysis video material can be made available online as well.

Secondary usage

Elections are very important projects for TV broadcasters, with considerable resources spent on production. First and foremost, these investments are made in graphics that illustrate different aspects of the election. With the addition of Escenic Content Studio any graphic created for TV broadcast can easily be re-used online. This allows broadcasters to maximize the return of investment made for creating graphic templates. By adding Escenic Content Studio to the workflow, the last “mile” to the internet is simple, intuitive and completely under editorial control. In addition, all videos, maps, and graphics created using Vizrt graphics and media asset management solutions are accessible for web friendly editing, transcoding and publishing. With a marginal additional cost, the impact of the investment in graphics can be doubled.
