Escenic Reporter
Enable reporters to utilize the full quality potential of modern mobile phones to send high resolution videos and images directly from the field to Escenic Content Engine.
Escenic Reporter is an application that runs on the mobile phone and sends high resolution images and videos directly to Escenic Content Engine using phone networks or wireless networks. The content is not limited to the restrictions imposed by the MMS standard, thus enabling reporters to send high quality content without using a computer.
Using Escenic Reporter, journalists can send images and videos limited only be the phone's capabilities. Phones with multi-megapixel cameras can send images at full quality. As an example, the Nokia N95 can send video with 640x480, 30 fps at 800 kbit/second, as well as images at 2582 x 1944 pixels.
The reporter can also write text, which is sent together with the images and videos: Titles, teasers and body texts. These texts can be further edited in Escenic Content Studio and Escenic Web Studio.
Integrated
Escenic Reporter enables reporters to select which section or desk the content should be sent to. Content created with Escenic Reporter is stored in Escenic Content Engine, and is instantly available in Escenic Content Studio with all the usual multichannel and cross publishing capabilities.
Geotagging
Phones with built-in GPS receivers can automatically geotag images. The geographical information is avalable in Escenic Content Engine, making it possible to display the image and video locations on maps on the website.
Asset management
Escenic Reporter has an easy to use, quick navigational interface for browsing and selecting content captured with the phone. Images and videos can be edited on the phone before sending to Escenic Content Engine.
Robust
Escenic Reporter is designed to function under varying conditions. Content can be sent using 3G, EDGE, GPRS, WLAN and other protocols, depending on the phone's capabilities and available network connections. If a network error occurs, Escenic Reporter will resume transfer when the connection is reestablished.
Supported phones
Escenic Reporter currently supports 40+ phones. The basic requirements are Java (J2ME with JSR-75) and a camera with at least 2 megapixels resolution. Low-end phones can use the phone's built in web browser with a subset of the functionality provided by the Java application.
Escenic Reporter is functionally identical to Viz Reporter. See more information on vizrt.com .
Escenic Tip Engine
Escenic Reporter is designed for in-house content contributors. Please see Escenic Tip Engine for how to receive and manage content from citizen journalists in SMS, MMS and email format.
