This page is a high-level description of Escenic's product strategy and includes recent and planned releases. This roadmap might change based on input from the Product Strategy Board.

2007

Escenic Content Engine 4.3

Escenic Content Engine 4.3 was launched in Q1 2007. This includes Escenic Content Engine, Escenic Content Studio and Escenic Web Studio.

Escenic Tip Engine

Escenic Tip Engine was launched in Q3 2007.

Escenic Community Engine

Escenic Community Engine was launched in Q3 2007.

Escenic Mobile Solution

Escenic Mobile Solution was launched in Q3 2007.

Escenic Event Engine

Escenic Event Engine was launched in Q4 2007.

2008: Released

Escenic Community Engine 2.6.1

A maintenance release of Escenic Community Engine was released in January 2008. This version includes an improved JSP tag libraries for the various modules as well as an open Java API for extending and integrating with other systems.

Escenic Tip Engine 1.1

A maintenance release of Escenic Tip Engine, containing both improvements and enhancements, was released in January.

Escenic Simple Publishing

The Escenic Simple Publishing module was released in the beginning of March. Escenic Simple Publishing is an efficient, user-friendly method for in-context content management, using the web browser to manage content directly on the website.

Escenic Tip Engine 1.2-3

A maintenance release of Escenic Tip Engine, containing both improvements and enhancements, was released in February.

Escenic Content Engine 4.3-3

A maintenance release of Escenic Content Engine 4.3 was released in March. Highlights: New and improved article list mechanism, performance improvements on section handling, new releases of Forum, Lucy, Category and Ad Manager, as well as improved CCI NewsGate integration. Escenic Community Engine 2.6.2

A maintenance release of Escenic Community Engine to take advantage of new functionality of the Forum module released as part of Escenic Content Engine 4.3-3, as well as some other improvements and enhancements. Read more: Escenic Community Engine 2.6.2 released.

Escenic Community Engine 2.6.3 - 2.6.6

There has been several Escenic Community Engine releases in June and July 2008, each adding improvements and features, as well as fixing some issues.

Lucy 3

Lucy version 3.0-1 was released in August. Highlights include:

  • Updated Apache Lucene libraries from 1.4.3 to 2.3.2
  • Feature for adding custom fields to the search index
  • Feature for searching in custom fields in the search index
  • Feature for adding support for additional languages
  • All configuration is done with Escenic Properties files

2008: Planned

Escenic Content Engine 5

Escenic Content Engine 5 will be a big leap forward for Escenic, taking advantage of new technology and 10 years of industry experience. This release includes very substantial improvements of both Escenic Content Engine and Escenic Content Studio. Both are redesigned and - to a great extent - rewritten to take advantage of new technology, keeping in mind the needs of our most demanding users.

Escenic Content Studio's user interface is based on extensive user testing, interviews and valuable feedback from our customers. Some of the highlights for end users are:

  • Completely new user interface in Escenic Content Studio
  • Content and presentation will still be separated, but the user interface will make it easier to see how the content may look when published in the various channels.
  • Quicker and easier access to all types of content.
  • Improved management of images, handling of different image versions will be completely transparent to the user.
  • Improved support for collecting related content, enabling users to collect related content and later select elements for publication.
  • Specialized content editors, for instance for image galleries, providing easy access to batch operations on all the images in a series.
  • Greatly improved undo/redo, drag & drop, etc - based on the Swing Application Framework (JSR 296).
  • Two modes for advanced text proofing: Both while typing, and after finishing typing.
  • Improved preview functionality, with support for previewing time-controlled content.
  • Improved support for tagging and categorization of content.

Escenic Content Engine 5 is scheduled for release in the summer of 2008.

Escenic Geotagging Module

This new module will add efficient geotagging functionality completely integrated into Escenic Content Studio. Features include:

  • Fast online lookup of addresses
  • Reverse address lookup for GPS coordinates
  • Direct marker placement on maps from within Escenic Content Studio
  • Map marker management
  • Getoag metadata stored with the article in Escenic Content Engine include: GPS coordinates, address, accuracy, etc and all attributes are easily accessible in the presentation layer.
  • Map independency - can be used to present maps using several mapping solutions

The Escenic Geotagging Module is planned for release Q4 2008.

Escenic Content Engine 4.3-4

A maintenance release of Escenic Content Engine 4.3 is planned for release in fall 2008. Escenic Data Capture and package-based installation (plus upgrading and uninstalling) is planned for release together with this version - see About Escenic R & D for more information about this.
