Escenic Community Engine 3 roadmap
Esceinc Community Engine 3 features improved integration with Escenic Content Engine 5, provides a third-party API for integration and extension, and also supports single sign-on and OpenID.
There has already been numerous enhancements included in the 2.X releases of Escenic Community Engine. Version 3 will contain some important new features:
- Very tight integration with Escenic Content Engine 5
- Third-party API for extending Escenic Community Engine
- Widgetized template development
- Single sign-on (SSO)
- Support for OpenID
- Administration dashboard
Integration with Escenic Content Engine 5
Escenic Community Engine 2.X may already be used together with Escenic Content Engine 5, but version Escenic Community Engine 3 will bring this integration to a new level. All content, whether editorial or user generated (UGC), may be seamlessly integrated - including text (stories, blogs, comments, discussions, etc), images, video, sound and custom content types. All types of content may be managed directly in the community or in Escenic Content Studio.
Third-party API
The API is implemented as RESTful web services, similar to the web services provided by Escenic Content Engine. REST is not Java-specific, and this allows for development of new features, additional modules, custom solutions, etc using both Java and other programming languages.
Widgetized template development
Implement and reuse components, and configure appearance and features epending on context.
Single sign-on support
Support for single sign-on (SSO) will be part of Escenic Community Engine 3.
OpenID, Facebook Connect and Google Friend Connect
There is a growing demand for inter-connecting accounts across different communities. The most common solutions are Facebook Connect, and OpenID. Other solutions may be considered according to input from the Escenic Product Advisory Board and regular customer demand.
Administration dashboard
Escenic Community Engine contains ready-to-use JSP tags for building custom administration features into the community. The administration dashboard will introduce a standard, out-of-the box, user interface for the most common administration tasks, such as content moderation, user configuration and access control.
