In-Page Editing

Live WYSIWIG editing of text and images on all types of pages, directly on the website in a standard browser. No plugins required. When saved, changes are immediately live across all channels, and saved in Escenic Content Engine just as when editing in Escenic Content Studio.

True WYSIWIG editing of front and section pages is a very high priority for Escenic. Escenic R&D is working together with the Escenic Product Advisory Board to create a full-featured, effective solution for quickly making changes and still providing high quality markup.

Below are some feature highlights. Most actions are performed with drag and drop and/or sliding using small controls that appear next to the text or image that is being managed. All changes are saved in Escenic Content Engine, just as if the editing was done using Escenic Content Studio. Changes are effective on the website(s) immediately, across all channels.

Easy to use

These editing features will be very easy to use:

  • Click the text on the website and type to make changes directly in the browser (works on any page, not just front pages).
  • Click an image and drag or scroll with the mouse to zoom and pan.

Moving content around on a page is already possible, using the Escenic Widget Framework.

All changes are stored in Escenic Content Engine

All editing is done directly in the browser (WYSIWIG), and works in all current browsers without any plug-ins. There is no separate editior and preview, and the editing features are available to anyone with the proper access and persmissions, and each customer may control this as they see fit.

Changes made in a browser is saved in Escenic Content Engine, just as if the change had been made using Escenic Content Studio. Users may switch back and forth between the browser and Escenic Content Studio and make changes as they see fit.

Changes are instantly visible: If a spelling error is corrected, or an image is cropped, the change is immediately visible on all the sections and websites that content item has been (cross)published to, mobile-adapted websites are updated, RSS feeds are updated, any exported or syndicated content is updated and so on.

There is no extra layer "in front" of the standard Escenic presentation servers, so any caching rules, ESI support, etc is unaffected. Dynamic, highly personalized wesbites may use the frontpage editing without affecting the performance of the website.

Screenshots from the development server

This is a simple example, without any styling, of how a simple text (just a small part of a front page) may be edited in an alpha version of the product, currently in mid-development. Please note that this is not how the finished solution will look.

And one example of text (badly) placed on a background image:

These screenshots from the development server are from November 2009. Please contact us for a demonstration of the features available in the current version.

Planned release: See Escenic 5 Roadmap for details.
